Micah was in fine form for Manchester City as the Premier League side were held by Notts County in the FA Cup, Edin Dzeko’s late equaliser saving his side’s blushes as the game finished 1-1.
The 22-year old was named in a strong City line-up having recovered from a back injury which ruled him out for several weeks, and he made his presence felt at both ends of the pitch as he stood out for the visitors.
Unsurprisingly, a lively atmosphere greeted both sets of players and the hosts threatened early on, Alan Gow curling a free-kick just wide with Joe Hart scrambling.
City finally got going and nice interchange between Dzeko and Micah allowed the latter to break down the right, cutting the ball back superbly only for Yaya Toure’s effort was knocked behind.
Micah was equally involved at the back and a well-timed jump allowed him to head clear with several Notts County players poised, whilst Dzeko was dispossessed in the opponent’s penalty area as he lined up his shot.
Despite the difference in leagues, the home side were giving a good account of themselves and the teams went in level at half-time, with Roberto Mancini looking along a talented bench of players.
Another break down the flank from Micah saw the defender cut the ball back for Dzeko, though the giant striker was unable to get over the ball and instead spooned his effort well over.
The game was everything a cup clash should have been, and in the same manner Notts County went ahead. Gow’s corner was glanced on by Neal Bishop and the ball found its way into the back of the net to make it 1-0, queuing wild celebrations in the stands.
Lee Hughes’ header – after he beat Pablo Zabaleta in the air – failed to find its mark, a fate that also met a header by Dzeko soon after.
However, City did finally find a way through with 80 minutes on the clock. Micah had already had a powerful shot blocked and seen Gareth Barry’s fine volley tipped over before the visitors levelled, and Micah was instrumental in the move.
Jerome Boateng’s ball was deftly flicked passed Micah’s marker before he used his pace to latch back on to the ball, before he picked out the advancing Dzeko who found the back of the net with ease.
The hosts had an immediate chance to restore their lead as Mike Edwards found a yard of space at the far post, but Micah was equally capable in defence and he marshalled his opponent away from the ball.
Unfortunately for the youngster, he picked up a knock a few minutes later and was forced off, and he watched on from the touchlines as Hughes wasted a fine effort at the death and Aleksander Kolarov’s fine ball across the six-yard box went begging before the final whistle was blown.
