By Micah Richards | In My Week
Another week gone and another week closer to Christmas, a time of the year I really look forward to, as it means we have plenty of opportunities to move up the premier league table whilst spending some quality time with family and friends.
The Christmas party was held this week for everybody involved with Manchester City, and it was really good fun. Everyone had to wear all white and if you didn’t get in, so everybody looked smart.
We had a really posh meal, every member of the squad turned up and everyone was in really good spirits. The music was class and everyone – and I mean everyone, from Daniel Sturridge with his silky footwork to the kit man – was having a dance, or at least attempting to have a dance!
I’ve been working really hard this week having missed the last two games, and in particular I’ve been doing intense rehabilitation with the physio to make sure I don’t miss another one. I’ve been in training a lot longer than normal which has meant longer days, but if everything goes to plan I’ll be fit for our next game against Everton on Saturday.
Obviously, as we get nearer to the festive period, we also get closer to the opening of the transfer window, and there’s been a lot of transfer gossip in the papers recently which will only get more intense as the weeks continue.
Micah's boyhood idol, Thierry Henry
The likes of David Villa, Sergio Aguero, Kaka and my boyhood idol Thierry Henry are just a few names being touted as possible signings. When I read these stories in the paper it gives me a real boost, because to me it’s demonstrating the intent of the new owners and Mark Hughes to develop City into one of the best teams in the world.
The team will, of course, need time to gel so it will require patience, but I just have a feeling that over the next month or two you will all see the real Manchester City and we will work our way back up the table.
I’ve been in and out of town quite a bit over the last week getting all sorted for Christmas. I really look forward to the festive period and I’ve just put up my Christmas tree. Unfortunately, on the shopping front I’m not finished yet, but I try to get it all done as early as possible to avoid the rushes, and I’m not far off!
Micah's close friend, Ishmael Miller
This week I got some bad news that my good friend Ishmael Miller had been injured, and not just any old knock or niggle – he tore an ACL (anterior cruciate ligament), which is a major blow to his season, and I really felt for him when he rang and told me.
It’s likely he will miss the rest of the season, which is disappointing after he put in some great performances in recent weeks, so I’d like to take the time out to say get well soon. He is mentally very strong so I know he will come back stronger from it, but it just makes me realise that, one minute you can be running around and playing well, and then the next you have an injury which rules you out for the rest of the season. I really feel for him and wish him a speedy recovery.
