Wednesday March 18, 2009My Week So Far... 14

By Micah Richards | In My Week

We’ve had a busy week in training as we look to hit back following the disappointment against Chelsea, and I also took part in a photoshoot for the Bobby Moore Fund.

I’m away in Aalborg at the moment and I am looking forward to the game tomorrow. Im certainly not thinking that we’re through to the next round just yet as there is still a chance for them to get back into the tie so all of us will have to be on our toes.

If we go into the game with the attitude that we’re through then we’ll get a surprise as they are a very good team and should not be taken lightly, no matter what the result was in the first leg. I think the first goal is key and if we can get it, it will certainly make life much more harder for them. Off the field, it’s not as cold over here in Denmark as it was last time I was here – the sun is out which surprised me as I thought it was going to be freezing!

Before we left, I did a photoshoot for the Bobby Moore Fund, a charity in memory of one of the best players ever to play the game which looks to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. I was so proud to be involved with this as it’s a great cause and Bobby Moore is also one of my idols. Rio Ferdinand and Shaun Wright-Phillips were just a couple of the other players who took part. A selection of images will be used to promote a campaign which raises awareness about bowel cancer.

It got me thinking about legends of the game such as Bobby Moore, somebody who achieved so much within football, including lifting the World Cup with England and winning the FA Cup. He was a phenomenal player and, from speaking to other people, he was a really inspirational leader in each of the sides he played in, and if I could achieve half of what he has then i’ll be more than satisfied.

MR2 collection - coming soon

Training this week has been really good, even though it’s been quite intense. The gaffer has certainly got us all enjoying ourselves in training whilst keeping it very serious. As well as that i’ve been going to my local gym which is a great way to take my mind off things and relax. A lot of the people there do heavy weights and look to build muscle, but I go and do a little running or some time on the bikes, then I go in the pool for a swim and relax in the hydro pool – only if i’ve worked hard enough though!

As i’ve mentioned a few times, we will soon be launching a new range of clothing – called MR2 after my initials and squad number – which has been designed by my brother and me, and which will be available to buy through the website and in some major retailers. It’s something i’ve been passionate about since a young age, and having been supported to do it, I have shown it to a lot of the City players, including Shaun, Stephen Ireland and Robinho, and they are keen on putting some orders so i’m hoping it will be a big success. We’re advised to pursue interests away from the game, and I wanted to do something i’ve been interested in since I was young, so keep your eye out for some of the designs over the coming months.
