Manchester City rounded off their pre-season preparations at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki, succumbing to a 3-1 defeat to Arsene Wenger’s Arsenal.
The game was an ideal run-out ahead of City’s opening Premier League fixture against Newcastle United next Monday in a game branded as the Carlsberg Super Match. It was Arsenal that took the lead after just eight minutes, Theo Walcott breaking behind the defensive line and deftly chipping over Joe Hart to make it 1-0.
James Milner and Edin Dzeko went close but there were to be no further goals in the first-half as events took a scrappy turn. Micah, Jesus Navas and Samir Nasri were introduced to proceedings at half-time, but as City continued to toil in front of Arsenal’s goal, Aaron Ramsey doubled the Gunners’ advantage, bursting through and rounding Hart to make it 2-0.
It was three soon after as Walcott picked out Olivier Giroud who lobbed Hart to make it 3-0, some static defending by City proving to be their downfall. New-boy Alvero Negredo pulled one back for Manuel Pellegrini’s side and the game ended 3-1, perhaps providing City a timely grounding ahead of the season’s start in a few days time.
Away from the pitch, the latest episode of Inside City sees Micah joining in the fun at Chappy’s tribute match & more.
