Aston Villa and Sunderland shared the spoils in an entertaining clash at Villa Park, Scott Sinclair’s brace cancelled out by Jeremain Lens’ second half leveler.
Sunderland went ahead through Yann M’Vila’s goal but Sinclair scored twice to see Villa lead, only for Lens to equalize and both sides play out for a point a piece.
M’Vila’s strike was a peach of a 25-yard free-kick, curling past a helpless Brad Guzan, but Villa were level within three minutes, Sinclair fouled in the area and stepping up to smash home the resulting penalty to make it 1-1.
Four minutes before the break Sinclair doubled his and Villa’s tally, firing home from five yards out after a fine run down the flank by Jordan Amavi.
However, the Black Cats drew level shortly after the interval, Lens evading Ciaran Clark’s challenge and powering home to make it 2-2.
Micah should have adding a third as he powered forward after winning the ball in his own half, only to see his fly wide from just two yards out. Rudy Gestede had chances too, but it wasn’t to be and both sides had to make do with a point.
