Micah once again put his culinary skills to the test as he led a team in the Premiership Cook Off – an annual event that raises funds for the Five Stars Appeal.

The evening of food and glitz saw two teams of Premier League footballers cook the meals, wait on tables and supply the drinks for over 130 guests. An auction also helped raise money for the campaign, which has supported Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital for over 30 years and this year is aiming to raise £1 million to purchase a new MRI scanner.

So far, £900,000 has been raised towards the bid and the event should tip them over their target before the years end, a tremendous achievement for all involved.

Micah was in charge of one team alongside Manchester United’s Gabriel Obertan, putting aside their club differences to prepare a starter of chicken and black bean spring rolls, mains of blackened cod and chocolate truffle cake for desserts.

Heading up the opposing team was Micah’s City teammate Shaun Wright-Phillips, who was joined by Nigel de Jong, prepared a meal including crispy duck for mains and cookies and cream crème brulee for dessert.

City’s Joe Hart, Adam Johnson and Gareth Barry were amongst the waiters, joined by the likes of Jermaine Pennant, Tuncay and Ricardo Fuller.

And Micah’s preparation paid off as the so-called Five Star Kids were judged to be the victors by guests including Coronation Street stars, fellow players and members of the public.

A charity auction was held after the meal to raise further funds for the Five Stars Appeal, with Micah putting his hand in his pocket to bid for a holiday and Wright-Phillips successfully bidding for a training day with boxing champion Amir Khan.

Appeals Director for Five Stars Appeal, Charmaine Wilkinson, said: ‘We cannot thank Joe Akka, his team at Panacea Alderley Edge and the footballers who took part enough for the hard work they put in to making this event happen. The guests had a night to remember and over £55,000 was raised on the night so we are delighted.”

‘We are delighted with the success of our second Premiership cook off event and so pleased that the event managed to raise so much money for the Five Stars Appeal. We are so very grateful to the many footballers that took part last night – they did an amazing job in all areas of the restaurant. Based on last night’s performance they could come to us for a job anytime!”
