Micah has outlined his aims for the season exclusively with the official Manchester City website – mcfc.co.uk – stating that he hopes to continue his solid start to the campaign.

The 21-year old has been a regular choice for manager Mark Hughes in the right-back spot, putting in a number of combative performances alongside a new-look City defence.

The young defender also went close to opening his goal tally against Portsmouth, only for his tap-in to be ruled out for a dubious offside, and he is conscious of the fact that a string of impressive performances could put him in contention for Fabio Capello’s England squad.

Micah made his debut for the Three Lions team in 2006, becoming the youngest defender ever to be included in the senior squad, though he has made an impression in Stuart Pearce’s England Under-21 set-up more recently.

Above all else, however, the youngster is focusing his attention of aiding City’s bid to break into the Premier League’s top-four while continuing his own development.

“First thing first and the initial aim for everyone here this season was to win a place in the side; there is great competition for places,”

Micah – donning his If U Care Share wristband in support of the project – told MCFC.co.uk’s Chris Bailey.

“Hopefully if we are pushing to where we want to be, I am in the side and we are keeping clean sheets and doing well then there is no reason why I can’t get back into the England picture.

“The main thing for me is giving 100 per cent for City and making sure we achieve something here this season. For years we have promised something but now we have the players to do it. There is no excuse for us not to have a big year here.”

Micah limped off at Fratton Park having sustained a knee injury, but he confirmed that the knock is not as serious as first thought and he is hoping to be included in the squad to face Arsenal at the weekend.

“It’s not as bad as first thought – I’ve got tendonitis in my left knee and I think all it needs is rest, and hopefully I should be back for the Arsenal game,” he added.
