Micah shared the headlines with hattrick hero Carlos Tevez after the 21-year old’s wondergoal for Manchester City in their 4-1 demolition of Blackburn Rovers at the City of Manchester Stadium.
Collecting the ball close to his own penalty area, Micah burst 80-yards, going passed five Blackburn players before laying the ball off perfectly to Benjani.
Although the Zimbabwe international’s shot struck the post, the ball fatefully rebounded into the path of Micah – who had continued his run – and the England man added the finishing touch.
The goal comes in the wake of improved performances this term for the youngster, and he was quick to highlight the role of his manager, Roberto Mancini, in the upsurge.
“Since the Manager has come in he has brought a real confidence with him,” he said.
“We’re showing that on the pitch and we’re getting results.
“I feel I’m at my best at centre half, but there’s another hard game at Everton coming up so hopefully I can take my form into that one as well.”
Mancini reserved praise of his own for the defender, insisting there is much more to come from him too.
“Micah is a young player, but I think if we work well in training sessions he can improve a lot,” the Italian said.
The goal was Micah’s third of the campaign, and attention now turns to City’s next league encounter with Everton on the 16th January.
