Aston Villa’s dire Premier League situation only worsened as they were hammered 4-0 by Manchester City at the Etihad.
Things had looked promising for Villa as they held their title-chasing rivals at bay for 48 minutes, but once Yaya Toure broke the deadlock the floodgates opened and Remi Garde’s side were overpowered.
The Ivory Coast international was well-placed to fire home after being teed up by David Silva, whilst Sergio Aguero made it 2-0 soon after.
David Silva once again proved architect for the third, exchanging passes with Aguero before the latter converted to make it 3-0.
Raheem Sterling added a fourth, and City could even afford to miss a penalty, Aguero spurning the chance to grab a hat-trick late on.
The loss sees Villa remain eight points adrift at the foot of the table, with nine games left to salvage their Premier League status.
