Manchester City ended Blackpool’s five game unbeaten run at the City of Manchester Stadium as they sealed a 1-0 win to bring them back to within touching distance of table-topping Manchester United.

Micah was named among the substitutes for City whilst Mario Balotelli was sidelined with injury, and within 30 seconds Carlos Tevez had driven an effort just wide of the target.

The Argentina international went close again five minutes later during what was to prove a busy game for him, whilst Gary Taylor-Fletcher forced a fine save from Joe Hart.

Charlie Adam almost caught the young stopper unawares from 45-yards only for his lob to drop just wide of the post, while David Silva was inches from opening the scoring at the other end.

Yaya Toure’s fine footwork – turning and laying off to Tevez – allowed the latter to get his shot away, but Laryea Kingston was equal to it.

However, he could do nothing to stop Adam Johnson’s shot finding its way into the back of the net after a huge deflection, the England winger collecting the loose ball and driving home from the edge of the box.

Things took a turn for the worse for the visitors as City were awarded a penalty as Toure was brought down in the box, but remarkably Tevez – after missing several chances already – put the spot-kick wide.

In an equally entertaining second half, Matt Phillips drew a solid save from Hart in the opening exchanges, whilst another effort from Tevez – albeit a good one – saw the forward curl the ball just round the far post.

It was becoming quite a feat of the game how many chances Tevez had, and he looked a dead certainty to score having taken the ball round Kingston only to slip as he lined up his finish when he should, in fact, have used his left foot.

Blackpool were by no means there to make up the numbers and Neal Eardley looked set to equalise for the away side only for a superb save from Hart deny him, and there were to be few other chances of note before the final whistle.
