The highly anticipated derby between Manchester City and Manchester United ended in an anti-climax as neither side was able to gain a grasp on the game, with both sides playing out a 0-0 bore draw.
Much of the pre match talk centred around whether City were closing the gap on their trophy laden rivals, and the added spice of Carlos Tevez once again facing his former side guaranteed tension was high in the lead up.
A few tasty challenges in the early minutes captured the attention of both sets of fans, but the first real effort on goal came when Nani fired in a free kick from 25 yards which Joe Hart saved comfortably.
Michael Carrick then had Hart wary of his lines as he blasted in a wayward effort from distance as both sides struggled to create any openings of note.
It was from another set piece that there was a real threat of a goal, Paul Scholes adjudged to have brought James Milner down and Tevez curling the ball round the wall only for Edwin Van Der Sar to make a good save.
At the other end Dimitar Berbatov managed to angle his body to volley from a ball in but once again Hart was in the right place at the right time, and it was much of a muchness after the break.
Berbatov again went close with an effort on goal whilst off balance but, as would be expected, it lacked the necessary power and precision, whilst Tevez’s own shot on goal from the edge of the box was straight down Van Der Sar’s throat.
Arguably the best chance of the match fell to Zabaleta who cut in from the right, turned on to his left foot and fired on goal only for the ball to swoop just over, and it was to be the last chance of the match as both sides had to settle for a point.
