Fiorentina saw off Atalanta 3-1 to set up a Coppa Italia quarter final with Roma as Mario Gomez scored a brace.
The Germany international struck after just six minutes to grab his second goal of the season, whilst Juan Cuadrado converted from the penalty spot to make it 2-0 amidst rumours of reported interest from Chelsea.
The game was all but put to bed just before the half hour mark as Gomez struck again, despite Rolando Bianchi pulling one back for the visitors just before half-time.
Vincenzo Montella’s men were reduced to 10 when Marcos Alonso was given a second yellow card, but the threat from Atalanta was minimal as the hosts progressed to the last eight.
