Fiorentina spurned a host of chances as they were held to a 1-1 draw at home to rivals Empoli in the Tuscan derby.
Micah was among the substitutes as Borja Valero headed over from a few yards out early doors, whilst Juan Cuadrado saw a powerful drive tipped behind as the hosts exerted their dominance.
At the other end, Francesco Tavano had Empoli’s best chance following a defensive lapse but he dragged his shot wide, the visitors’ only real chance of the half.
As proceedings drew towards the break, La Viola finally found a way through, Juan Vargas taking advantage of his opponent’s lack of ability to clear to rifle home and make it 1-0.
Mario Gomez struck the post with a header immediately after the restart and Cuadrado saw another powerful drive saved, with the home side looking unassailable, but their inability to convert their chances came back to haunt them as Empoli leveled.
Mirko Valdifiori curled in the corner and Lorenzo Tonelli headed in to make it 1-1, and whilst Fiorentina continued their dominance as they pressed for a second, Empoli’s defence held firm to secure a point.
