Villa fought back from a goal down against unlikely league leaders Leicester City, Shinji Okazaki’s opener cancelled out by Rudy Gestede’s late equaliser.
Jamie Vardy was instrumental in Leicester’s goal, racing clear and attempting a first time lob. Mark Bunn back-pedalled and made a fine stop, but wasn’t able to keep out Okazaki’s follow up. At first glance, it appeared the stopper had made a fine follow-up save, but goal-line technology proved the ball had crossed the line.
The Foxes should have doubled their advantage from the penalty spot, Aly Cissokho judged to have used his arm to stop Riyad Mahrez’s shot, but the latter’s poor penalty was easily denied by Bunn.
The miss lifted Villa’s spirits and after much toil Gestede stepped off the bench to find an equaliser. Robert Huth’s attempted clearance finding its way to the Villa striker, who in turn lashed home, via a deflection, from 12 yards.
The point sees Villa lie nine points from safety, but with hope remaining that the side can haul themselves out of the drop zone.
