Micah was named man-of-the-match as Villa held Manchester City to a 0-0 draw at Villa Park in Remi Garde’s first game in charge.

Though the result doesn’t shift Villa off the bottom of the Premier League, it ends a run of 8 straight league defeats and the performances will certainly have pleased Garde as he seeks to ensure the side haul themselves out of the relegation places.

The game also marked Micah’s first return to City, and he received a warm reception after his long spell with the club.

After a bright start, Villa found themselves under ongoing pressure from City, with Aleksander Kolarov testing Brad Guzan, while Fernandinho should have hit the target with a chance of his own.

The home defence held firm, but the visitors continued to toil after the break and Guzan was increasingly called into action to stave the threat – not least when he saved a certain Raheem Sterling goal with his head after Jesus Navas had burst down the right.

Kevin De Bruyne also missed a guilt edged opportunity as he attempted to flick the ball in from five yards out, instead missing the target.

The clock ticked down and Manuel Pellegrini’s men were enjoying lots of possession but unable to find a way through Villa’s stoic defence. Late on, Fernando saw a header rebound off the crossbar, and Fernandinho’s subsequent shot curled just wide of the far post.

It was a fine team effort by all of Villa’s players to seal a point, and it lays strong foundations for Garde as he looks to resurrect the club’s season.
