Manchester City were held to a goalless draw away at Aris FC in the first leg of their last-32 clash despite fielding a strong line-up.
After his impressive display in the Manchester United-Manchester City derby, Micah retained his place at the right side of defence, whilst Edin Dzeko and Carlos Tevez teamed up in attack.
City started the brighter of the two teams as Roberto Mancini’s men went in search of a valuable away goal, with David Silva going close early on and Micah having a penalty appeal turned down.
Dzeko should have put City in front after a nice ball in by Aleksander Kolarov, but the giant forward missed the opportunity to put his side in front.
Dzeko was in the thick of the action but saw a subsequent drive from 25-yards – lacking real pace and precision – saved, whilst Joe Hart almost got himself in trouble as he went close to handling outside the area.
In truth it was a damp squib of a first half and Mancini will have been hoping for more in the final 45 minutes, but it wasn’t to be as Aris held firm.
Shaun Wright-Phillips managed to cut inside the box but his shot was tame, whilst a Dzeko header was superbly tipped over to keep the scoreline goalless.
The striker then saw a rasping shot go just wide and will have been justified in thinking he should have had a hat-trick.
Even the introduction of Mario Balotelli failed to lift City in order for them to score, and the two team will clah again at the City of Manchester with everything to play for.
