Premier League Round Up So Far

Micah rounds up the Premier League Matches so far

We’re getting close to the mid-point of the season so I thought it would be good to do a round-up of the Premier League campaign so far and, if you like it, I’ll do one each week for the previous round of matches.

I’ve broken the season-so-far into categories, and I’m interested to know whether you agree or disagree with my choices.

Best Goal

David Bentley in action

David Bentley in action

First up is the goal of the season so far. There’s been some great finishes already, including the likes of Glen Johnson and my team-mate Robinho’s finish against Arsenal, but the one I’ve gone for is David Bentley’s 45-yard strike against The Gunners.

Like I say, there’s been some other top goals, but the way he controlled the ball on his knee and then volleyed it from long-range makes it the best I’ve seen. That was an entertaining match, with Spurs coming from behind to draw, and the fact that Bentley scored against his former club will have made it even sweeter too.

Best Save

Again, there’s been some great saves already this season, including Pepe Reina’s against Blackburn Rovers when he stopped Morten Gamst Pederson’s effort.

However, I’ve gone for my England team-mate David James’ double stop against Everton when he did brilliantly to stop Mikel Arteta’s half-volley before regaining his balance and stopping the Spaniard from scoring the follow-up.

It demonstrated why he’s still one of the best goalkeepers in the country, and Pompey secured a comfortable 3-0 win.

Cristiano Ronaldo

Funniest Moment

I don’t condone abuse of players and fans disrupting matches, but the incident involving Cristiano Ronaldo and one of the ball-boys during the Manchester United – City derby was funny. As Ronaldo went to take a corner, the ball-boy threw the ball at him a bit harder than he should have, but fair play to Cristiano for not responding. Our fans enjoyed it though.

Best Comeback

It’s hard to admit it but Liverpool’s comeback against us was perhaps the best. We were 2-0 up and looking comfortable, but Fernando Torres got the back in the game before Pablo Zabaleta got sent off for us.

Then Torres headed home his and The Reds’ second, and Dirk Kuyt’s winner so late on was absolutely gutting. We still had chances to score more ourselves but, looking back, it was a great effort by Liverpool – you can see why they’re top of the league.

Nicolas Anelka

Nicolas Anelka

Best Player

Without a shadow of a doubt, Nicolas Anelka. There were quite a few critics of him when he first joined Chelsea because he wasn’t finding his form, but now he’s playing as an out-and-out striker most of the time he’s scoring for fun.

Anyone that scores 14 goals in 17 league games has to get a mention, and he’s one of the few players in the world who can match Thierry Henry for pace.

Comment

  1. Last week – Not the usual lineup.

NF out to play 110 %.

Sometimes things don’t go they way we would like. That’s life. City should pick themselves up, dust themselves off and just enjoy playing. The rest will come of itself.
