Happy New Year...Micah

Happy New Year... Micah

Christmas has been and gone and we had a good festive period at City, including the demolition of Hull City and our last outing against Blackburn Rovers.

The clash with Sam Allardyce’s side was a great one! I was on the bench as I had a sore hamstring and the physio didn’t think I was fit enough to start, but I came on when we were1-0 down.

Jason Roberts then scored a header, shocking everyone as it was against the run of play, but we showed a lot of team spirit – something that has been questioned recently – and got a 2-2 draw. We were all pleased as the game seemed to have slipped from our grasp, though obviously in an ideal world we’d have won the match.

Our last match, the defeat to Nottingham Forest in the FA Cup, was completely unacceptable though. With no disrespect to them, we fully expected to win the game and I even thought we could have been in with a chance of winning the entire competition, so we were all gutted to be knocked out. There’s no excuses for the performance we put in, and it’s something we’re going to address this week.

On that note, the transfer window has now opened and every day I’m seeing different stories about all types of players who are meant to be coming to join Manchester City. We keep getting asked about the imminent arrivals, and I can tell you that everyone around the club is really looking forward to the new signings as it will help our cause, and I’m sure you as the fans are just as excited.

We’ve already secured the signing of Chelsea left-back Wayne Bridge, who I’ve played with for England. He’s an excellent player, both going forward and defensively, and I think he can certainly help the club move forward. I’ll keep my eye on Sky Sports News to see who else arrives, and I would think there’ll be a couple more players coming in at least over the next few weeks.

In between all of the above was New Years Eve, which I spent with my girlfriend and friends. We went for a meal, had a laugh and even had a little sing-a-long, so it was a nice night.

I feel like 2008 went so fast and I’m certainly looking forward to this year. There’s lots of areas I really want to improve in my game, but given my age and the experience I’ve already gained, I’m really confident about 2009. I hope to establish myself back in the England first team and help Manchester City climb the Premier League table. We’re still in the Uefa cup and I think realistically we can challenge for the trophy.

Domestically, I’m sure that the second half of the season will certainly be a lot better than the first as we have failed to find any consistency, and we certainly need to if we want to challenge for a European spot, something I still think we could achieve if we get going.

I’ve already asked you for the dream players you’d like to see City buy in the near future, but now I want to know who you realistically think we’ll bring in before the end of January? Leave your answers below, and I look forward to reading them!
